| So how's life going?
There's some uncertainty with the future grad school/career thing, especially since funding's hard to come by these days.
Anyways, here's my summer schedule.
- My default activity is to work on research at UCLA.
- Fri 6/12-M6/15: Resolved conference at Palm Springs, hosted by my church, featuring John MacArthur, John Piper, C.J. Mahaney, Steve Lawson, Rick Holland. This year's topic is on "sin" and it should be good and convicting! (http://www.resolved.org/)
- Week of 6/28: (most likely): Going up to Norcal!
- I'll be heading up to the Bay Area maybe another 2 times (including for a wedding featuring 2 Berkeley EECS alumni! yayy)
Grad student life..
- Remember those textbooks you tried to ignore when taking classes? It's actually a good idea to read some for research, as self-assigned textbooks..
- While looking for funding due to us being poor grad students.. a fellow grad student suggests that there should be an "American-born Chinese" fellowship/grant :P After all, there are fellowships for all sorts of ethnicities
- A grad student and i calculated the cost of getting an off-campus meal plan, and found that it was more expensive to be buy a set a meal plan like 3/5/14 meals a week than to pay for each meal individually at any time
I wonder who set the prices that way..? (I think these are the standard prices: $8.25 dinner, $7 or $7.5 for lunch/brunch, and something less for breakfast) - While eating in the dining halls, we (as TAs) still think it's a bit weird to see our students around, heheh.

| Once again, I had trouble finding the "new weblog post" feature :P Hello again, readers!
Let's see.. back in the days, I used to use xanga to to help keep in touch with and get to know others. And then facebook came along, and I assumed that facebook would help me keep in touch others. Ehh, that didn't work too well - I tended to fall behind. -_- I really prefer face-to-face conversation over communication by writing, but I don't have enough time or create enough opportunities to see people face-to-face..
Anyhow, winter break is almost over. I used to spend my breaks playing video games (mostly RPGs.. like Kingdom Hearts 2 and Final Fantasy 12, which I lost interest in). Nowadays, I spend a lot of time reading (aside from hanging out with family and friends)
Ha! I added the currently watching after some people were chatting about that movie and I didn't quite know what they were talking about. I tend to like musicals :)
Anyways, well, there goes another year! Did all sorts of less common things, like going to a Shawn McDonald concert, late night grunion run, karoaking in k-town, biking at venice beach, and going to the UCLA-Tennessee football game. Hm.. life has been passing by fast since that Resolved Conference. I'll be attending more musicals later this year, such as "Phantom of the Opera" and "Mamma Mia!"
So how are things going for me? On a more significant note, I got baptized at Grace Community Church. I'm also excited to be in charge of some website stuff at the college fellowship (Grace on Campus). I'm thankful to be growing and learning in the Lord there =)
Research-wise for my Master's thesis, I'm working on energy savings associated with a new system configuration involving mostly memory and not much hard drive usage. I also have a lot of TAing prep to do. It will be my first time TAing such an extensive class (linux lab).. partially because I'll be the one lecturing..
I'll end with some random conversation.. Topic: Rock band vs. Karaoke Person asks: "How about rock band instead of karaoking?" Guy response1: "But it doesn't have Chinese songs!" Guy response2: "It doesn't have any disney songs!"
Ok.. that's it for now!

| wow.. i almost forgot how to post a new blog entry :P
for now, this is for recording purposes.. wow, 2.59 inches at UCLA! Source: weatherunderground. I like how weather underground gives rain totals and some other info that I don't normally find in other places http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=90010

| Hi everyone,
I think I'll update this journal slightly more often during the summer, since I'll have more time to.. write? In the meantime, many random tasks await during finals week..
Also, I'm looking forward to the Resolved Conference, organized by Grace Community Church! http://www.resolved.org/
As for summer plans, I'm going to be at UCLA for most of the time, and I'll be at NorCal for 2 weeks starting Sunday, June 29th.

| I feel as if I should add something to this blog
I remember my brother telling me: tomatoes are the only vegetables that become more nutritious when cooked! So I checked some articles..
From this article: http://fabulously40.com/article/2064/Nutrition-Boosters-for-Fruits-and-Veggies/
"For most fruits and vegetables, any type of cooking lowers the
nutrient content. So for now, a good rule of thumb is: less is more. ... The exception is the red tomato. Cooking actually increases its
level of lycopene—an antioxidant thought to help prevent certain types
of cancer, heart disease, and vision loss."
Another article about the benefits of the tomato. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2003/apr2003_itn.html
Also, I like to have mustard on my sandwiches but no mayo, because mustard has very little fat: http://www.thecaloriecounter.com/Foods/200/2046/Food.aspx
Ok, that's it for now!
